Reuse and repair operators

These operators play a role upstream of the waste management stage by supporting the reuse of products or their components. They may collect items that are still in working order or repairable, refurbish them, and put them back on the market, giving them a second life. In doing so they contribute directly to reducing waste and building the circular economy, by offering consumers sustainable alternatives such as repairing and reselling second-hand. Producer responsibility organisations can collaborate with these operators to encourage and develop these practices within EPR schemes.

Waste management operators

These operators handle the various stages of waste management – collection, sorting, decontamination if necessary, recovery, and disposal – in accordance with the regulations and the contracts signed with the PROs. They may also help develop the reuse of products or some of their components after they have become waste.

Local authorities

Local authorities are involved in the separate collection or consolidation of end-of-life products from households, in accordance with the regulations and the contracts signed with the PROs.
